Reverse osmosis (RO) is a filtration process used to remove dissolved substances from water.
Household RO systems are normally used only for drinking, cooking, ice making, brushing teeth and humidification. Whole house systems for treating all of the water used in a home are also available, but are designed somewhat differently. Through a microfiltration technique where water containing dissolved solids (DS), is forced through a membrane (a filter with very small holes), leaving the DS behind. The water being treated is called the raw water and the water which passes through the membrane is called the product water or permeate. The water pressure on the raw waterside of the membrane must be much greater than that on the permeate side. Features:
